Broken Arrow Ledger Newspaper
Broken Arrow, Indian Territory (OK)

Whether you are interested in researching your family's history, have a particular interest in a given area, or just want an idea of what was going on in a town in the "old days" there's no better way to find out about every day life than to read old newspapers. These, usually weekly, newspapers contain everything from local gossip to national news and just about everything in-between. Marriages, births, deaths, social affairs, politics, court cases, fires, murders, towns' finances, ads for local businesses, etc., all find their way into the local paper. If you haven't yet read an old newspaper browse through these issues of the Broken Arrow Ledger to get an idea of what these old newspapers are like.

The first issue of the Broken Arrow Ledger was published April 23, 1903. The Broken Arrow Historical Society has copies of the BA Ledger on microfilm at its museum.

Because of the amount of information on Broken Arrow, its people, businesses and residences I made copies of the Ledger's eight page Special 3rd Anniversay Edition. I also copied the front pages of two other issues to give you an idea of what an average paper contains. The transcriptions indexed below were made from copies and not the microfilm.
