"The first newspaper in Tulsa was called The Indian Chief published by J. L. Winegar. Later the name was changed to The Indian Republican. It was taken over by George Bayne and then sold to Eugene Lorton, becoming The Tulsa World 1905.

The Indian Republican (photo and history) began publishing in 1893 but the first copy in existence (that I'm aware of) is the Jun 17, 1898 issue. If anyone knows of any earlier issues in existence please let me know.
