The class of 1957-1958 was the last Junior High School class to attend Cherokee school. In Sep 1958 the new Monroe Junior High School opened its doors to welcome the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th graders - 10th graders? Yes, the high school Sophomores were also there on opening day. The new high school (McLain) wasn't yet ready so once again this class once found itself in the position of being the upper classmen - a spot they didn't relinquish until they walked out the door of McLain as its first graduating class in 1961.
